German stowaway caught on container ship at Port of Oakland

A German citizen has been charged in federal court for sneaking onto a container ship at the Port of Oakland to try to catch a ride to South Korea to be with his pregnant wife.

According to court documents, in September Andreas Guenther rowed an inflatable raft through the port to the Hong Kong-registered Cosco Oceania.

He boarded the ship, but was discovered by crewmembers a short time later and removed by the Coast Guard.
