After 86 years, a new beginning...
welcome to CBN

In 1922, when Jackson Corbett Jr. published his first issue of Marine Digest out of the old Grand Trunk Railroad Dock on the Seattle waterfront, would he have envisioned his magazine would be thriving on the global logistics stage in the 21st Century?

Mr. Corbett came along at the right time with the right idea as the shipping industry was becoming more global and sophisticated.

We are honored to carry on a tradition of shipping business media excellence with a new name:
Cargo Business News (CBN).

The CBN tagline has been with us for several years, and given the content and focus of this publication, we felt it was time to elevate Cargo Business News to the top of the masthead. At CBN, we continue to strive towards presenting our target readers — those who control the movement of cargo, and the supply chain that serves them — the best possible information, tools and news to help you perform your transportation and logistics job.

The cargo business is going through immense change, and our readers and advertisers deserve a publication that doesn’t just ride these changes, but anticipates them as CBN has, and will continue to do.

In 2008, we look forward to working with you to design effective marketing communications solutions that will make full use of the resources we offer - in print, online, as well as with industry events and easy-to-reference directories - to showcase your products and services to maximum effect.

As for the essence of the Marine Digest that Jackson Corbett envisioned almost a century ago? The ships, trains, trucks, ports and all points in between are still moving cargo 86 years later, and in far greater volumes.

Just how we like it.

Here’s the full breakdown of our coverage...

1. Comment and Analysis

Lighthouse contextualizes global events; Cargo Business Newswire highlights the month’s main events; Cartoons are instructive and ours speak volumes; our Commentaries leave no doubt about our take on issues affecting the industry.

2. News and Features

  • Infrastructure and Ports
    CBN
    sponsors the annual
Port Productivity and Northwest Intermodal conferences and it is second to none in its coverage of ports and their supporting infrastructure.
  • Commodities and Trade
Oil? Cars? Electronics? Commodities are the basis of trade, and CBN covers commodities, the trade lanes they pass through, and the markets they seek, such as Asia, and more specifically, China, which is the theme of another of CBN’s successful events: The China Conference.
  • Security and Insurance
There is no reward without risk, and we report on the risks up and down the supply chain, as well as the ways top businesses manage their risk – or not.
  • Companies and Markets
Winners and losers pique your interest, offering tips on how to prosper or not. In these, we tell you who’s on top and how they got there.
