Refrigeration technologies
Getting perishable products to market safely and without loss of quality is vital, and refrigeration makes it all possible. In fact, it’s estimated that one-quarter of the world’s produce is never eaten because of inefficient transportation systems between the grower and the consumer.
Below are a few of the state-of-the-art refrigeration technologies available. New advances continue to improve costs, efficiencies, and the quality of temperature-sensitive products upon their arrival.
Carrier Transicold
PRODUCT: PrimeLINE® Container Refrigeration Unit
SPECIAL FEATURES: The technologically advanced PrimeLINE unit offers exceptionally high performance and low-cost energy consumption in the most common refrigerated container shipping scenarios. By reducing energy requirements, it helps shipping lines curtail emissions related to generating electricity…thereby lessening the environmental impact.
HOW IT WORKS: The PrimeLINE unit is the first container refrigeration unit to use a digital scroll compressor developed for use with the environmentally sound refrigerant R-134a. Additional platform enhancements include an efficiency-boosting redesign to the evaporator fan and stator with blades optimized for efficiency. Boosting the cooling capacity is a larger condenser coil. The result is best-in-class pulldown capacity and higher deep-frozen capacity than any R-134a unit.
CLIENTS: Major shipping lines such as Maersk Line, and various container-leasing companies.

Tednologies, Inc.
PRODUCT: TEDSBOX (Tracking Environmental Deviation System BOX). A temperature controlled cargo container with RFID temperature tracking, LD-3, and airline bag cart sized COOL CART.
FUNCTION: Maintains +/- 2 degrees of desired set point through the entire transportation system to ensure quality and safety of the perishable and/or temperature sensitive product (PTSP). Receiver provided an RFID printed time/temperature readout.
SPECIAL FEATURES: It’s 110/220v and battery operated. Continuously operates and charges while plugged in and has100 hours of battery life when unplugged. Unessential batteries can be removed on the LD-3 model for standard length trips to reduce weight. It can be easily moved by pallet jack, roller deck or forklift and eliminates the need to trans-load the product into multiple containers, which breaks the cool chain required for PTSP and invites potential contamination. A built-in lip keeps liquid from escaping in the event of improperly packaged product, insuring that the vessel will not be delayed for expensive cleanup requirements. Includes the patented COOL CART, which gives temperature control on the ramp between holdover times for the next connection.
HOW IT WORKS: TEDSBOX turns on with one switch and to one temperature setting. As the container moves from different exterior environments, it automatically tracks the internal deviation and adjusts itself to ensure +/- 2 degree of your set temperature.
CLIENTS: Pharmaceutical, bio pharma, flowers, fruit and vegetables, fresh meats and any PSTP to include frozen product.

Thermo King Corporation
Product: MAGNUM PLUS® Container Refrigeration Unit
Function: With the lowest energy consumption possible from today’s container refrigeration unit technology, Thermo King’s MAGNUM PLUS provides refrigeration to containerized cargo. There are no cargo limitations; the MAGNUM PLUS can be used on cold treatment, controlled atmosphere, modified atmosphere, de-humidification, dairy, meat, bananas, or whatever load is being carried.
Special Features: MAGNUM PLUS builds on the original MAGNUM, improving temperature pull-down time, weight, ease of maintenance and overall performance. In one standard mode of operation, the MAGNUM PLUS offers greatly-reduced energy consumption and accurate temperature control, even extending to an industry benchmark -40 degrees C for high-value, deep frozen loads.
How it Works: The combination of proven digital scroll compressor technology and world-standard R-404A refrigerant, along with fine-tuning of mechanical components, new airflow channel designs and improved software and processing capabilities allow the MAGNUM PLUS to achieve its functional parameters. The MP4000 microprocessor controller offers sophisticated performance and accurate temperature control without cargo compromise and greatly reduces energy consumption.
Clients: Shipping and leasing fleets across the globe.
